Derik Alan Huskey, 29, was arrested Wednesday evening in Midland, Texas and charged with felony animal cruelty in the alleged brutal torture and killing of his pit bull on Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of people including children reports

Midland Police and Animal Control state Huskey stabbed his dog named Gage several times after slitting the animal's throat six or seven times at the Midland apartment complex on the 2200 block of Cotton Flat Road where Huskey lived with his roommate.

According to, Huskey warned neighbors to stay away from his as he brutally tortured the gentle dog and yelled:

"If you call the police, I'll stab you too. This is my dog."

Huskey, however wasn't done yet. After stabbing the dog again and again in the back, the crazed man threw Gage over the fence, while the dog was still alive. More stabs and Gage was dead; Huskey returned the next day and buried his dog in a shallow grave - pouring acidic chemicals over the body to keep other animals away.

Huskey's roommate told the Midland Police that he (Huskey) had been drinking heavily that night, and when Gage approached the roommate's Chihuahua, Huskey went crazy. In reality, the roommate said all Gage had done was place his paw on the little dog, and when ordered to move away, Gage did as he was told.

Gage was described as a well-behaved and very sweet dog.

Huskey is being held in jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Rest in peace Gage.
