The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders released its complete 2013-14 men’s basketball schedule on Aug.31. The Raiders will play six NCAA tournament teams from last season, including Elite Eight participant Florida, during the non-conference portion of the schedule.
MTSU will open the season against Southern University at home in the Global Sports Challenge on Nov. 4. The Blue Raiders will also play North Florida, Arkansas Little Rock and Florida in the Global Sports Challenge.
MTSU went 16-0 at the Murphy Center last season and have won 28 straight games at home, which is the second longest current streak in the nation. The Blue Raiders will play 16 regular season home games and will also host 2013 NCAA Tournament teams Belmont and Akron along with North Florida, South Alabama, Arkansas-Little Rock, South Alabama, Fisk and Tennessee Temple along with Conference USA foes UAB, UTEP, Texas-San Antonio, East Carolina, Old Dominion, Tulane and Southern Miss.
MTSU will travel to Florida, Murray State, Ole Miss, Cincinnati and Tennessee State along with Conference USA foes Tulsa, North Texas, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Charlotte, Marshall, Louisiana Tech and UAB. In addition, the Blue Raiders will play in the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Dr. Pepper Classic where they will play Maine and either Tennessee-Chattanooga or Grand Canyon.
MTSU finished 28-6 overall and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 24 seasons. The Blue Raiders return eight players from last year’s team including starters Shawn Jones and Kerry Hammonds II.MTSU also has eight newcomers including four transfers, three freshmen and one redshirt freshman.
MTSU is entering their first season in Conference USA after previously playing in the Sun Belt.
