Middle school teacher charged sex abuse

Today, a Caesar Rodney middle school teacher was charged with sexually abusing a 13-year-old student, according to Dover police. Stephanie Seabury, 22, an English teacher at Fifer Middle School in Camden, and she was charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust or authority. According to the school district, only started teaching English at Fred Fifer III Middle School in August.

According to Dover police, the investigation that began March 12 after it was found out that Seabury had sexual intercourse with the boy on Feb. 26 after driving him from school to her home in the Woodmill Apartments, 1300 block of S. Farmview Drive, in Dover. Seabury was issued a $40,000 secured bond by Justice of the Peace Court 7.
According to Dover police it is alleged that on Feb. 26, the two had sex at Seabury's apartment after driving the student there after school. Investigators said they were able to retrieve surveillance footage of Seabury and the student exiting the school and walking toward the teacher's vehicle shortly before 4 p.m. on that date. Police said the investigation also revealed that Seabury and the student exchanged several explicit phone messages and photographs during the inappropriate relationship.

In response to Seabury's arrest, Caesar Rodney School District Superintendent Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald issued the following statement:
“Upon learning of alleged inappropriate behavior of a Fred Fifer III Middle School teacher with a student, the Caesar Rodney School District immediately contacted the appropriate law enforcement agency. The district has since continued to work with law enforcement and the Attorney General’s office during their investigation.”

The district has suspended Seabury with pay, and that has been in effect since the initial report according to Superintendent Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald.
