School can be a drag for some middle schooler's, but not one particular Friday in Chesterfield Township.
L’Anse Creuse Middle School East student, Halie Watkins has become a star because of her half court basketball shot that has gone viral according to Fox 2 News, March 8, 2013.
See the video at the bottom.
Halie Watkins is a seventh grader a LCMSE and says she is not the best player on the girl’s basketball team. But Friday was a day that changed her life. Halie tried ten times to make the half court shot and finally made the basket.
To give you an idea of how far half court is, a NBA and College court is 94 feet long and junior high is 74 feet, according to SportsKnowHow.com. Based on that fact, Halie shot a 37 footer.
The technical name for Halies’ shot is, front handspring half court shot.
Darlene Watkins, Halie’s mom, was extremely surprised when she saw her make the basketball shot on video. Halie had told her mom, but seeing was believing. She and her husband were quite excited.
Darlene’s reaction added icing to the cake. She responded, “Oh my God, Oh my God, she did it,” with all the excitement and smiles she could muster.
Congratulations Halie, you make us proud, your friends are good sports too! Go L’Anse Creuse.
