When you're cooking a big meal for a lot of people, it can become tricky to have all of the food ready at the same time. Your microwave oven can come in handy to help with preparing some of your side dishes. This Examiner was told that you could prepare an acorn squash in around 13 minutes in the microwave, so she decided to give it a try.
The end results were good, but it took longer than thirteen minutes to cook. This was most likely due to the size and watts of the microwave. Here is the recipe:
Sweetened Acorn Squash
- 1 (or more) acorn squash
- butter, to taste
- brown sugar
- maple syrup
Slice squash in half along the ridges. Scoop out seeds. Score the flesh with a fork. Place the 2 halves on a microwave safe plate and place in microwave. Heat on high for 8 minutes. Rearrange. Heat on high for 6 more minutes. Add butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup over the squash and heat on high for an additional 5 minutes. This Examiner skipped the maple syrup, using only butter and brown sugar and it was just sweet enough. Test with a fork, additional cooking time may be required. Scoop out and serve hot. These instructions are for one acorn squash.
