Microsoft VP gushes over Sony-owned, ‘Uncharted’ developer Naughty Dog

Microsoft Studios executive vice president Phil Spencer has taken to Twitter to sing the praises of one of his competitor’s studios, the Sony-owned developers Naughty Dog, according to a report today from GameSpot.

In response to a question on the social media site asking if Microsoft had a studio comparable to Naughty Dog after Bungie went independent, Spencer called the Uncharted developer a “special studio with an amazing track record.”

“I believe they are unique in our industry,” Spencer said.

Spencer didn’t offer up any Microsoft equivalents to Naughty Dog, though he did say that Microsoft isn’t in the business of creating a studio to be like another because “unique culture” needs to be cultivated on its own.

Later on in the thread, Spencer said having a solid slate of first-party studios was “critical to long term success.”

Microsoft stable of internal studios includes 343 Industries, currently working on Halo; Lionhead Studios, of Fable fame; Turn 10 Studios, who develop the Forza series; and Rare Ltd., the creators of Banjo-Kazooie and Kinect Sports.
