On Tuesday, Microsoft sent out invitations to its September 23 event. The Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 will be announced. The Surface 2 will have a 1080p screen, but will still run a limited Windows 8.1-like operating system. However, Microsoft will be mostly concentrating on the Surface Pro 2. Los Angeles Industry Analyst Paul Mueller tells us that Microsoft is forking over millions of dollars to promote the Surface Pro 2 and ads will begin on September 24.
This column has rated the Surface Pro as one of the best products of 2013. We believe the Surface Pro is almost a perfect combination between a tablet and a laptop. The battery life could be better and the Windows 8 operating system is a little confusing, but Microsoft is dealing with both of those issues.
Besides running Windows 8.1, the Surface Pro 2 will have Intel's new Haswell processor, which will add at least two hours of battery life. It will also come with 8GB RAM rather than 4GB, which was still adequate. You can expect naysayers to complain that the battery life is still shorter than that on the iPad, without even realizing that they are completely two different devices. Still, we are looking forward to the updated Surface Pro 2.
