Finally the release date of the Microsoft Surface Pro has been announced. The limited version Microsoft Surface RT was released back in October. At that time the targeted release date for the Surface Pro was listed as late January.
The Official Microsoft Blog confirmed on Tuesday Microsoft's Surface Pro hits the streets in the United States and Canada starting February 9. The Surface Windows 8 Pro will be available through all Microsoft retail stores as well as at Staples and Best Buy.
As previously announced Surface Windows 8 Pro pricing starts at $899 with 64 GB storage, and a 128GB version at $999.
Also announced were a few new accessories. Three new Touch Cover Limited Editions featuring unique laser-etched designs in red, magenta and cyan are priced at $129.99. The new Wedge Touch Mouse Surface Edition providing four-way Touch scrolling and easy navigation has a retail price of $69.95.
Critics of the Microsoft Surface RT pointed to its limited functionality because of the limited edition operating system that supports only a handful of applications. The Microsoft Surface Pro runs the Windows 8 Pro operating system which supports traditional Windows based applications and Windows networks.
