Microsoft slashed the price of its Surface Pro 2 Windows 8 tablets, offering U.S. customers a savings discount of up to $200. As WPCentral reports (June 17), the 10.6-inch tablets are up for grabs at the Microsoft store starting at $799 for the 64GB model.
This Surface Pro 2 price reduction deal arrives upon the ears of consumers ahead of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet release date. Announced in May with a June 20 launch date, the upcoming Surface Pro 3 promises to replace your laptop.
Microsoft said the same thing about its predecessor, the thin and lightweight Surface Pro 2 tablet and with good reason.The built-in kickstand and optional cover/keypad Touch Cover 2 or Type Cover 2 (sold separately), converts the standalone Surface Pro 2 tablet into a laptop. If you’re in the market for a Windows 8 mobile computer that does it all, the 2nd generation tablet might be an ideal consideration.
The Surface Pro 2 features a 10.6-inch full-HD display and packs a fourth generation Intel Core i5 processor inside. RAM is dependant on which storage option you choose. The 64GB and 128GB Surface Pro 2 models feature 4GB of RAM, while the 256GB and 512GB versions are equipped with 8GB of RAM. All models support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 3.0 connectivity.
With the price slash, you save $100 on the smaller storage capacity Surface Pro 2 models. The 64GB Microsoft Surface Pro 2 tablet is currently $799 (was $899) and the128GB version is $899 (was $999). On the larger capacity 256GB and 512GB models, you get a $200 discount, the tablets are now $1,099 (was $1,299) and $1,599 (was $1799), respectively.
As Microsoft makes room in its inventory with significant price cuts, the Surface Pro 2 is likely flying off the shelves. Pre-orders for the Surface Pro 3 12-inch tablets are live, with prices ranging from $799 to $1949.
According the Microsoft’s official online store, pre-orders for the 64GB/Intel i3, 256GB/Intel i7 and 512GB/Intel i7 variants of the Surface Pro 3 will ship by August 31. Orders placed for the 256GB/ Intel i5 version will ship on June 20, while the 128GB/Intel i5 model will ship on June 30.
