Countdowns are a proven method for building hype quickly and easily, and Microsoft is taking advantage of that fact. Microsoft's Larry Hyrb - better known online as Major Nelson - has set up a countdown timer on his official blog, with the termination date set for this year's E3 (June 11).
Considering Microsoft's unremarkable showing at last year's E3, longstanding rumors of possible developments have found new life. Rumblings of a next-gen console debut at the premier trade show in the form of the long-anticipated Xbox 720 persist, as well as questions of the possibility of another complementary bit of technology not unlike what we saw with SmartGlass. Given the history of such stunts, though, this could lead to something as simple as another round of software. Only time will tell.
As of midnight today, the wait until E3 2013 stood at 159 days. At very least, Nelson and Microsoft have done the gaming community a favor by offering a means to check the remaining time instantaneously down to the millisecond.
