The Microsoft KB2982791 update for Windows that they withdrew last month due to many customers complaining of blue screens and disabled computers has been reissued as KB2993651.

Microsoft says, "To address known issues with security update 2982791 [old version], Microsoft rereleased MS14-045 to replace the 2982791 update with the 2993651 update for all supported releases of Microsoft Windows. Microsoft expired update 2982791[old version] on August 15, 2014. All customers should apply the 2993651 update, which replaces the expired 2982791[old version]update. Microsoft strongly recommends that customers who have not uninstalled the 2982791[old version] update do so prior to applying the 2993651 update."

Visiting Windows Update to apply the new patch will NOT remove the 2982791 update - go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates to find the old patch. Highlight Security Update for Microsoft Windows (2982791) and click the uninstall button to remove it - see the photo I posted.

The Windows Vista 32 bit version is available here and the Windows Vista 64 bit version is available here.
