A week after Facebook disclosed it was hacked, Microsoft Corp. has confirmed that the technology company has also been recently hacked. According to a Feb. 22 Associated Press report, the company noted that there was no evidence that customer data had been compromised.
Microsoft gave no details as to the nature of the intrusion, but noted that it was similar to that of social media giant, Facebook, Inc. The company advised that it is investigating how malicious software found their way to some of Microsoft’s computers.
As we previously reported, in a notice that shook users’ confidence, Facebook announced its own hacking problems, claiming that hackers recently infiltrated some of its employee’s laptops.
Facebook maintained that none of its users’ information was compromised during the cyber attack and explained in a blog post that the attack occurred after a few employees visited a website last month that infected their machines with malware. “As soon as we discovered the presence of the malware, we remediated all infected machines, informed law enforcement, and began a significant investigation that continues to this day,” Facebook wrote.
Though Facebook did not comment on the origin of the attack, a security expert familiar with the situation said it originated in China.
