According to a release today from Microsoft its next-gen console Xbox One sold more consoles in the United States than its Sony counterpart the PlayStation 4, or any other console for that matter, in December, according to a report from GameSpot.

Microsoft said they sold through 908,000 Xbox One units in the month in the US, though market research firm NPD Group said that Nintendo sold more 3DS consoles in December and in 2013 as a whole than any other platform holder’s console.

The Xbox 360 came in third place among consoles sold at 643,000 to the current-gen hardware, and Microsoft is claiming that “50 percent of the combined software, hardware, and accessories spend in the US” came from Xbox products.

NPD did say that Microsoft counterpart Sony did sell more PlayStation 4 units in the two-month period since both it and the Xbox One launched in November.

Last week Sony announced it had sold-through more than 4.2 million units of the PS4 from its launch in mid November until the end of 2013, compared to Microsoft’s 3 million mark announced also last week.
