According to a report from Fusible, Microsoft has acquired the domain rights to Xbone.com, a site nicknamed after the Xbox One.
The Xbone.com domain can be traced back to Microsoft Corporation in the latest WHOIS records, and Fusible speculates Microsoft could have settled with the previous domain owner for the rights to the domain name.
In a post last week on NeoGAF, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, programming director for Microsoft’s Xbox Live, said he finds the Xbone moniker distasteful and disrespectful.
“I don't like it. It disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it's cheeky, but I don't care for it myself,” Hryb said.
Microsoft took ownership of XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net in July after Microsoft’s lawyers filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum in May.
The Xbox One is set to launch on Nov. 22 in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
