The Lincoln County Humane Society in St. Catharines, Ontario is sad to announce the death of Mickey the Lobster one day after he was rescued from the parking lot of a local restaurant this past Wednesday.
“Sad news, Mickey the lobster died in peace and quiet over night. Thanks for the well wishes, including the 3 offers to fly him out east,” the group stated in its official tweet.

According to the humane society's executive director Kevin Strooband, the Humane Society had tried to save the abandoned crustacean by “getting some salt water from a supermarket and putting the lobster into an aquarium.” It had been hoped that had it survived, it could have been send to the Maritimes where it most likely came from.

Mikey's plight became national news. Since “he” was left outside a restaurant that doesn’t serve lobster, authorities suspect that someone left him there as an April Fool’s Day joke.
