One of my absolute favorite special events at the Magic Kingdom is Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. This special event starts in September so you can begin the Halloween festivities early. You do need to purchase an additional admission ticket to attend the party.
The guests are all encouraged to dress up in Halloween Costumes. When we went it was still pretty hot so we went to the park during the day and came back to the hotel to change into our costumes in the late afternoon. Halloween costume watching was a lot of fun as there were some wonderfully creative people who really put a lot of effort into their costumes. The kids thought it was just magical, my son was Buzz Lightyear so it really doesn't get any cooler than riding the Buzz Lightyear ride in a Buzz Lightyear costume. My daughter was a little fairy and loved dancing all over the park sprinkling fairy dust. I am blessed with a family who is a lot of fun. My parents and husband also dressed up. We stayed at the Contemporary and it was a very quick monorail ride back to the hotel. I was very glad at the end of the night for the short commute home.
Our favorite part was the parade and fireworks, it was amazing. Get a spot so you can enjoy the:
- Mickey's "Boo-to-You" Halloween Parade - including Disney Characters and the stars of the Haunted Mansion attraction. The parade begins with a spook-tacular ride by the Headless Horseman.
- Happy HalloWishes - a spectacular fireworks show where the Disney Villains go trick-or-treating in the sky.
- Many favorite Disney Characters and Disney Villains in special Halloween costumes.
- Special lighting, music and theming effects transforms special areas of Magic Kingdom Park into happy haunted hollows.
The evening is appropriate for children of all ages. I would recommend bringing flashlights or flashy lightsticks for the young ones to carry if they are at all afraid of the dark. When we were in Adventureland a few areas were a little dark and my daughter was scared.
The dates this year are:
September: 10, 13, 17, 20, 24, 27 & 29
October: 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, 14, 17, 18, 20, 22, 24, 25, 27, 29, & 31
We made the decision to attend on Halloween and it was very crowded. I would probably schedule a different date next time since the lines for the candy were very long and we didn't want to wait. That would be another suggestion is to pack some candy so in a pinch you can avoid the longer lines and still have happy kids.
Have fun, dress up and celebrate Halloween Disney style this year.
