Mickey Mouse on Endor as Star Wars Weekends looms: Darth Maul and Wicket coming

The Disney Parks Blog revealed the 2013 Star Wars Weekends logo, which you can see at the top of this article. In it, Mickey takes to the forest moon of Endor for a wild land speeder ride.

Star Wars Weekends takes over Disney's Hollywood Studios starting May 17 and running every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through June 9. If you enjoy the Star Wars movies and the Clone Wars cartoon series, you'll find fun at this wildly popular annual event. This year, two celebrities are already confirmed: Ray Park, who played Sith warrior Darth Maul, and Warwick Davis, better known as Wicket the Ewok. Park will appear during the first two weeks, and Davis will be on hand for the third and fourth weeks of the event.

Most of the activities, including great character photo opportunities, autographs, special presentations, and the Hyperspace Hoopla celebration at the end of the day, are included with your regular park admission ticket. As always, kids will also be able to participate in Jedi training, and everyone can hop aboard Star Tours: The Adventure Continues for an adventure to various destinations with C-3PO as the reluctant pilot (hint: ride it several times because there are several different versions).

Now that Disney owns Star Wars, will that mean an expansion of the festival or other synergies? When Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs announced the Disney Springs expansion at Downtown Disney, he hinted about great things to come in the future. Check out his talk, which also touches on Avatar and, of course, goes into depth about Disney Springs, in the video toward the bottom of this article.
