Mickey Mouse is the mascot of the Disney brand for a reason, his animated shorts are what started the company up in the first place. If it wasn't for Steamboat Willie, Disney as a brand would never have been anything to begin with. Disney has announced today, Mar. 12 that a new series of 19 2-D animated shorts, taking place across the world from Santa Monica to the Alps, which can't help but excite any fan of Disney. The new Mickey Mouse shorts pay tribute to the early days of Disney Animation, the art style inspired by Walt Disney and his animation team from when they started back in the 1920's and 30's.
Considering their lofty goals, the team gathered for these Mickey Mouse adventures have a strong animation pedigree in their own right. Paul Rudish (Dexter's Laboratory) is the executive producer and director, with Aaron Springer (Spongebob Squarepants), Clay Morrow (Dexter's Laboratory) working as directors as well. The art director on these cartoons is Joseph Holt (The Powerpuff Girls) and they make up a strong group of creators bringing these shorts to life.
The 19 Mickey Mouse shorts start on Disney Channel, Disney.com, and Watch Disney Channel, and other platforms, on June 28. You can see a preview here, showing the short "Croissant De Triomphe" set in Paris, France, giving you a hint of what's to come. With Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Pluto along for the ride, Mickey Mouse is primed for a vibrant return to form.
