The Big Ten Championship game is finally here and this year’s match-up between Ohio State and Michigan State will have more than just a Big Ten title on the line – a possible shot at a National Championship hangs in the balance for the Buckeyes and a Rose Bowl bid looms for the Spartans.
According to Sportsline on Dec. 7, The Ohio State Buckeyes have not lost a game in two full seasons under Urban Meyer, but today’s game may be the toughest challenge OSU has had since they hired the much sought after coach.
Coach Meyer knows the perfect seasons mean nothing if they don't win today.
''Our focus is on this game and that's it,'' Meyer said. ''It'd be a disservice to our players if I went and worried about it. We have to move the ball against a great defense, and that's my focus.''
The Spartans (11-1, 8-0) need a victory to guarantee a Rose Bowl spot, where they haven't played since 1988. But if they lose, and Ohio State plays for the national title, the Spartans could go to the Rose Bowl anyway.
Ohio State goes as QB Braxton Miller goes, and that's a fact.
For the Buckeyes to win the Big Ten title today, Miller will have to be at his best vs. the tough Michigan State defense. The Spartans are not just one of the best defenses in the Big Ten, but in the nation. MSU giving up a nation-low 237.7 yards and 11.8 points per game to rank fourth.
Las Vegas odds makers have OSU as a 6 point favorite and the over/under number set at 53.
Prediction: If the defense comes through (like I believe they will) MSU wins this game.
Pick: MSU +6
The game kicks off at 8:00 p.m. EST on FOX.
