On Wednesday, the Pac-12 and Big Ten Conference further deepened their growing roots with another set of cross-conference marquee matchups between the Michigan State Spartans and the Arizona State Sun Devils.

The two games would take place on Sept. 8, 2018, and Sept. 14, 2019, at Sun Devil Stadium and Spartan Stadium respectively.

Michigan State and Arizona State have only met twice in school history, back in a home-and-home series set in 1985 and 1986. The Spartans won the opening match of the lineup in East Lansing in 1985 and the Sun Devils took the second meeting at home in Arizona the following year.

"I am excited that we are able to announce the series with Michigan State University," Arizona State coach Todd Graham said in a statement to the media. "Scheduling is very important to the overall success of a program and this is the type of matchup that we are seeking to fulfill our future dates. This series will help build our football program."

Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis told the Detroit Free Press that the home-and-home series with Arizona State was sought out for a specific reason: to replace an existing series.

"That series is replacing originally scheduled Notre Dame games in those seasons," Hollis said.

Both Arizona State and Michigan State have a reputation as being two of the country's top partying schools - something that MSU has tried to spurn for some time. Regardless, it seems likely that the "Battle of the Party Schools" will certainly become inevitable at some point in the future.
