On Thursday, Big Ten conference officials announced that for the first-time in history, the conference tournament has officially been sold out in advance.
Scott Chipman, league spokesman for the Big Ten, delivered the news in a conference with reporters to much excitement. For the first-time since 2007, this year's tournament will be held in Chicago's United Center. The tournament itself has been held annually since 1998; many of those years with the event happening in the home of Big Ten country: Chicago.
For the last four years, the tournament has taken place in the heart of Indianapolis. When the Big Ten conference split a few years back and a championship game was developed for the football teams, that title match up was also held in Indy. Now, for the next four years, the Big Ten basketball tournament will alternate locations between Chicago and Indianapolis.
The Windy City was home to the tournament's attendance record back in 2001 with a total of 109,769 fans. For the last three Big Ten tournaments in Indy, the game has sold out, as well, but not until the actual game day.
