On Wednesday night, ‘American Idol’s’ Jena Irene became the first Michigan contestant to earn an impressive second place. To date, Jena has gone father in the competition than any other Michigan contestant.

This season was especially exciting for fans here in Michigan. Two other Michigan teens – Malaya Watson and Sam Woolf – also made the show’s top 12.

For Jena Irene, the ‘American Idol’ journey began almost a year ago. The hugely talented 17 year old from Farmington Hills auditioned for the reality show last summer at Ford Field in Detroit.

As Jena continued to move forward in the grueling ‘Idol’ competition, it was obvious that she was talented and mature beyond her years.

Week after challenging week, Jena brought her best efforts to the stage – and the audience loved every minute of it.

As for judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr., they were more than impressed. In fact, Jena’s first performance of Elvis’ ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ earned her an embrace on stage from Lopez.

In the end, it was Jena’s friend and fellow ‘Idol’ hopeful, Caleb Johnson, who won the competition.

When host Ryan Seacrest made the final announcement, Jena was genuinely happy for Caleb. The two plan to attend Jena’s prom together.

The 14th season of ‘American Idol’ returns in January. For more on the upcoming ‘Idol’ tour, visit the show’s official website.
