A dispute in Michigan left two men dead after a bizarre shoot out Wednesday. Police say the deaths resulted from a road rage incident in the town of Ionia after both men pulled concealed guns and began firing at one another.
The Michigan car wash shootout was the site of the deadly shooting involving James Pullman, 43, and Robert Taylor, 56, according to a September 20 Independent news report.
Sources say the incident began when one driver was allegedly driving too close to the other. Both men pulled their vehicles into the Wonder Wash Car Wash and the tailgating driver began firing his weapon. The other returned fire.
Both men had concealed gun permits.
"One was laying in between the cars and another was laying on the other side of the car," said an unnamed witness to the Michigan road rage shootings.
Witnesses on the scene tried unsuccessfully to revive one of the shooters. When paramedics arrived, Pullman and Taylor were transported to a local hospital, where they both were pronounced dead a short time later.
The road rage shooting in Michigan highlights the need for more dialogue and gun control legislation.
According to the state's laws, anyone at least 21-years-old can receive a concealed weapons permit after taking and passing a brief test on gun safety. Additionally, an applicant must pass a background check.
As the Independent pointed out, if the men involved in the Michigan road rage incident did not have permits, they would have been required to secure their guns inside special cases in the trunks of the cars.
