Ellen Degeneras posted a story on her Ellen’s Good News blog about a 10 year old boy, Colin. Colin has Asperger syndrome and another disorder which is similar to Autism, and has problems socializing at his school in Michigan.

Although he is approaching 11, Colin told his mother he did not want to have a birthday party because he has no friends to invite. How sad is that? However, his mother, Jennifer, decided to create a “Happy Birthday Colin” page for her son on Facebook. She recruited friends to help spread the word and even posted an address so that people could mail a birthday wish to Colin. After a few weeks, Jennifer was ecstatic after responses reached 100!

Now the entire world is involved – messages are coming in from countries around the world. Jennifer posts updates about Colin’s progress through videos, photos, and stories. In less than a month, Colin will be able to see all the new friends. Estimates indicate that by his birthday on March 9th, Colin may have 1 million new friends. All this has resulted from one moment of a mother’s love.

All who have a Facebook account can see Colin’s birthday page on Facebook, the same link provided above. Please send Colin a message and if you’d like to send a birthday card, his address is: Colin – PO Box 756, Richland, MI 49083-0756.
