A state psychologist has ruled that Kelli Stapleton is competent to stand trial, according to Detroit Free Press on December 19. Kelli Stapleton chronicled the day-to-day life of her challenges in an online blog. On her blog, The Status Woe, Kelli wrote about the struggles her family faced caring for their aggressive autistic daughter.
Stapleton, 45, and her daughter Isabelle were found unconscious in the family’s van in a rural part of Benzie County. Coals had been burned in the van and all of the windows had been rolled up. There were holes burned in the vans carpeting from the coals. Isabelle and Kelli were treated at Grand Rapids hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning. Isabelle stayed in a medical induced coma for the treatment of her injuries.
