You would expect Team USA to be physically and mentally spent after their dramatic 3-2 shootout win over Russia, but the Minnesota contingent of hockey players scored all five goals in 5-1 victory over Slovenia.

Leading the way was former University of Minnesota star Phil Kessel who scored a natural hat trick (three cinsecutive goals). Ryan McDonagh of St. Paul, Minnesota and Minneapolis' David Backes scored Team USA's other two goals.

Three of the four Michigan representatives - forward Ryan Kesler, defenseman Cam Fowler and goalie Ryan Miller - played in the game against Slovenia. Miller was making his first start in the Sochi Olympics and stopped 17 out of 18 shots.

Former University of Michigan forward Max Pacioretty was scratched from the lineup, but should be back in two days for Team USA's quarterfinals opponent. The win earned the American team a bye in the first round of the quarterfinals.
