Michigan: How to get a medical marijuana permit

Michigan is the most recent state to allow medical marijuana, and was voted into existence by the citizens of the state in 2008. In April of 2009 the state established a registry program, which is where anyone interested in a permit must apply.

The fee for the permit is $100, and there is a $25 reduced fee available for those on Medicaid or SSI. Your application must be accompanied by a doctor’s recommendation, so you may need to find a compassionate doctor if you don’t already have one. Fortunately, the THC Foundation has clinics in Southfield, Grand Rapids, Houghton Lake, and Marquette.

Due to the youth of the program, dispensaries have yet to be really established in Michigan. However, there seems to be quite a bit of interest from potential dispensary owners. Stay tuned for more on dispensaries in Michigan.
