Michigan firm recalls 1.8 billion pounds of beef products

According to government reports, approximately 1.8 billion pounds of beef recalled by a Michigan firm may contain e. coli. Information supplied by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, also referred to as FSIS, states there have been no reports of illness connected with the recalled beef.

The products included in the recalled beef that was packed by the Wolverine Packing Company in Detroit, Michigan, was intended for restaurant use. The recalled beef should not be in homes and was not for any school lunch program.

Information provided by the report assures those in the Charlotte area that no restaurants in the area are involved.

The recall for this beef is considered a Class I Recall, which means there is a high health risk for anyone consuming the product if it indeed is contaminated with e.coli.

The ground beef products were produced between March 31, 2014 and April 18, 2014. For a full list of products that were recalled please see the attached document.
