Sixty-one riders braved the hard rain and gloomy skies over Grayling on Saturday, August 31, 2010. They competed in a 30-mile race beginning at Hartwick Pines State Park and ending at Hanson Hills Recreation Area.

This was the first Michigan Bike Festival ran by the Michigan Mountain Biking Association's Northern Chapter President, Glen Ruczynski, who is already pondering how to make next year's event bigger and better. Ruczynski literally had a little help from his friends – everyone from the volunteers at the road crossings to the finish line timers and those who cleaned the ski lodge on Sunday.

In spite of the rain, race participants offered positive feedback as well as promises of returning for next year's Logsplitter race. Overall and category results may be viewed online.

Money raised from this grassroots event goes to the MMBA Northern Chapter to use towards building and maintaining trails across Northern Michigan. The MMBA works with local land managers to open access to mountain bikers and to build sustainable trails that will withstand erosion. After building the trails, MMBA volunteers maintain those trails by completing tasks such as clearing overgrowth and fallen debris, as well as repairing or rerouting sections of trail that are not suitable for mountain biking.
