Michelle Stafford is leaving the role of Phyllis Newman behind on “The Young and the Restless.” Her character is currently unconscious and may have sustained an irreversible injury to the frontal lobes of her brain. “Y&R” fans may be left hanging for months or even years to see if the writers and producers decided whether or not to kill off the character or recast it.
In the meantime, Michelle Stafford is moving on to a project of her own. The 47-year-old mother of one will produce an online series called “The Stafford Project” and on Sunday, July 28 Stafford told fans about the project via Twitter.
Stafford talked more about her decision to depart the role of Phyllis Newman and to leave “The Young and the Restless behind” with Soap Opera Digest, and said that there are no hard feelings, no acrimony, no regrets. Michelle Stafford says she fully expects that the producers of “The Young and the Restless” will recast the role of Phyllis Newman and says she even offered some suggestions for possible actresses to take on the iconic role of the red-headed Phyllis Newman.
