The Obama family enjoyed the west last weekend, as President Obama brought First Lady Michelle Obama and his two daughters, Sasha and Malia, on a working vacation. As the president spoke at several conventions, the first family made time to stop by Yellowstone National Park on Saturday to take a look at Old Faithful. Then, as they traveled to Arizona on Sunday, they were able to visit the great wonder of the west, the Grand Canyon.

Michelle looked elegant and chic in Wyoming on Saturday in slimming black trousers, scarf, and her Rick Owen Lillies vest, recycled from a look she sported in Paris earlier this year. However, Sunday’s trip to the Grand Canyon brought out another side of Michelle’s style. Michelle Obama, known for taking fashion risks, took another risk wearing shorts, unbuttoned blouse, white tank top and tennis shoes, all paired with her bright lavender ToyWatch. These shorts, much more casual than her normal sun dresses and belted cardigans, showed off quite a bit of leg. This casual look, similar to how the first daughters were dressed, is quite a change from the typical, always elegant pieces most first ladies of the past have chosen to wear on vacations.
President Obama proved his title of being named to the best-dressed list, looking prestigious and presidential in his white polo and slacks while touring the canyon. But was Michelle dressed appropriately as a first lady? What do you think?

Big fashion don't.
It is awesome to see real examples from our first lady. She is not fake. How should one be on a family vacation? First lady is teaching her daughters to be who they are no matter what.
she looks ordinary and tacky and she is the first lady why not look like a first lady at all times dress casual but elegant!
She should not wear shorts in public. Working out-understandable...but, she knows people will be taking photos of her. It seems she would want to appear demure and lady-like!

I know it's hard for you to believe her legs aren't full of lumpy cellulite and ugly spider veins like yours. (It's just not fair!!!) There are some clinics that will help you to resolve those issues that you keep hidden under those long pants you wear in the sweltering heat of the summer. Check out the yellow pages at a clinic nearest you. Stop with the insidious, jealous, nick picking of our beautiful adorable First Lady! Please!!!! (lol) Didn't your mothers teach you as child not to be so critical of others, lest "YOUR" flaws will surely go on display!!! Be careful who you point and turn your nose up at.(Look at the woman in the mirror.) Hmmmm?
She's on vacation, butt out, no pun intended!
She is our First Lady, and with that goes some sacrifice of the "my own self" that she so wonderfully displays. Although she was on vacation, she could have been more chic in her selection -- knee length shorts would have been more appropriate for the "First Lady of the United States." She has a wonderfully maintained body, but should use a little more judgement on how and when to show it off, as First Lady of the U.S.; take a lead from her always debonair hubby.
Michelle Obama must realize she is the first lady of the United States and the free world. She needs to be a good example how she dresses. I find it very appalling to see her dress in such short shorts. She has to understand her daughters are little girls and it's O.K for them to be seen in shorts, but she is big woman, why would she want to dress like her daughters. It just goes to show her state of mind, seeking attention. She is a disgrace to her husband's office and her office as a first lady. She looks like a cheap tart. I am not impress with her. Who are these people who are advising her, was not anyone around, even her mother to tell her that kind of wear does not become a first lady. Where is the Prim an Proper woman that Barack Obama said when he first met her. She really bounce her head. She has cheapen the office of the first lady. I am disapponted in her.

Obama, and her post lets you know that she was NEVER EVER a fan of the first family, but probably a "Birther" who pick up something from Glenn Beck and figured she would take her shot. Phyllis you and the rest of the (little) critics on here remind me of the nosey Mrs. Kravitz on that show, Bewitched. Always peeking through her curtains with her mouth open wide in a sigh! Always fault finding with no interesting life of her own. "Well if you ask me, I think so and so should be so and so and should not wear so and so." Blah blah blah! STH Up!!! Most definitely dressed appropriately. She is a women on a vacation with HER family....How inappropriate can asking that question be?? Her shorts aren't short at all...that is just ridiculous that it is the topic of a critics discussion. I guess if they decided to play volleyball or some sport outdoors, she should wear a sundress also...please..
Welp, StrongArm & Kayldouble-u, i would say yall need to give it a rest! The first lady is representing our country, on vacation or not. She could have been just as cool and comfortable in a sleeveless sun dress, showing off her amazing arms! Yes, she is in super shape, but that doesn't mean she can dress however she wants. Did you see the slideshow of the other first ladies? Jackie Kennedy never even wore shorts & she was in the best shape of ALL of them. I say the first lady, representing our country constantly, should keep it classy at ALL times.

I am an african american women am I am proud to have the first African American in rhe white house.The attire Mrs Obama chose to wear was out of order for the first lady of the United States of America.she have to realise that she cannot dress like her children and it is possible to wear shorts and look elegant.
We need to stop making excuses and see it for it for what it is it is tacky. No matter what the occasion President Obama always look his best he is a class act

I guess pretty soon we will see her in a babooshka, ragged cut-offs and a midriff shirt parading through the White House gardens. I am thoroughly disgusted with the way the elegance of the White House has been trampled on. She needs to "dignify up".
What she is wearing is "ordinary." For strolling around sightseeing, it seems OK... But exiting a presidential limo or plane it's quite sloppy. She could have at least buttoned her blouse for that.
While I agree that a person should be authentic and comfortable, what passes for acceptable is pretty ugly to see these days. I wish Michelle would be more of a leader in this regard.

Why would anyone want to hike in a sundress? She's hiking for goodness sakes. She's dressed appropriately for the occassion. Is she suppose to wear pants and a long sleeve shirt and pass out, so the media can then say what was she thinking,? Why didn't she dressed for the occassion? Lol. Maybe instead of segregating yourselves you could just go ahead and become American like the rest of us,you know...without the hyphen.
What she wore hiking down the canyon is immaterial. What she wore exiting the plane was disgraceful to the elegance and tradition typical of our former first ladies. What is even more disgraceful is that she has been likened to Jackie Kennedy. Jackie Kennedy was class, elegance and a fashion icon. Michelle is all over the place - sometimes acceptable, but often not so much as in this instance. As First Lady she will always be photographed and should be aware of the image she is projecting.
When I saw Malia come down the steps of AF One ahead of the President and First Lady, I was apalled. Malia even started shaking hands with official persons and military before the President was down the stairs. Michelle does not look like the First Lady at all when dressed like that. My gosh, she is supposed to be representing the greatest country in the world!!! Barack, Michelle and the kids need to take some protocol and fashion guidance from someone on staff who can tell them how to exhibit the class that should reflect the dignity of the position that the Obamas now hold in this country and in the world!!!!

For those of you that like this "change", you are going to get it up to your neck. You will be giving that flip/flop liberal whimper and mumbling something about it's not the liberal's fault but it will be. I am glad there are classy women like Rose who know that Michelle will not be pardoned for gross faux-pas just because of her ethnic group. For those of you who think shorts are OK for hiking, I suggest you contact the Muir socieity for some safe guidelines on wildnerness attire. She is at risk for sun burn & stone-injuries the way she is dressed. Getting bitten by bugs & all scratched up. For hot weather, she needs loose comfortable clothing that will still protect her limbs. I agree that she is not in private when she steps off the plane to a corps of photographers. What was she thinking? Usually Michelle is dressed appropriate, even if I dislike her belts & cardigans. It's good Malia is comfortable w/press. She is adorable, but lets hope her parents gently teach her to wait in line. I admit I can't take punishing Malia seriously, those girls are adorable and they are usually dressed beautiful! I think she should have worn something a little bit more appropriate for who she is right now --- a First Lady. The shorts was a huge faux pas! A little bit more classier yet casual attire like light khaki knee-lengths would have worked better. The world didn't expect this kind of sloppy and unnecessary exposure. A big thumbs down!
For goodness sake! Mrs. Obama was on vacation and dressed appropriately. As to "getting off the plane in shorts," I feel certain that if she were flying commercial she would have dressed differently. Frankly, you see some mighty sad outfits on commercial flights these days.....
Please, please stop comparing Michelle Obama to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She possesses neither the look, class, charm, figure or anything else that established Jackie as a fashion icon for the ages. Michelle makes far too many mistakes and simply doesn't have the classic style sense at all times. She can look fine but at times she simply doesn't look like a First Lady - case in point - the Grand Canyon tour. If you had put Jackie in those same shorts, the look would have been completely different.
