First Lady Michelle Obama attended the annual White House Correspondent's Association Gala at the Washington Hilton hotel on May 3, 2014 in Washington, D.C in grey tulle dropped-shoulder gown with silver floral embroidery. Mrs Obama accessorized her gown with a pair of statement metallic earrings. White House correspondent's dinner is an annual event attended by journalists, politicians and celebrities. This year’s dinner is seen as more muted than years past, with only a handful of entertainment’s elite descending upon the District. Those include Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o as well as Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the White House Correspondents’ Association. NBC's show “Community” actor and comedian Joel McHale takes on that role from Conan O’Brien. To honor the milestone, the History Channel partnered with the WHCA to produce a video chronicling the organization’s inception in 1914 and its growth over the last 100 years. The video, to be screened at the dinner, features interviews including President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton as well as former White House press secretaries Mike McCurry and Dana Perino and past celebrity hosts.
