Monday, President Obama signed the “Healthy, hunger-free Kids Act” at a cost of $4.5 Billion over the next ten years. The law increases spending on school nutrition programs with a range of provisions including government subsidized (paid for by tax payers) meals covering breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as meals during the summer. In essence, the Obama Administration feels it is the job of the government to feed children in school three meals a day because in the words of Michelle Obama, “We can’t just leave it up to the parents.” This is yet another example of the “nanny state” government saying they know what is best for you and your family.
The government already offers countless programs to help those in need feed their family. Now you won’t have to spend all that time and money wondering what to feed your children, they will take care of it for you because you obviously can’t make the right decisions.
Liberals across the nation feel it is their job to determine what we should and should not eat. In New York, State Assembly Democrat Felix Ortiz from Brooklyn sponsored a measure with fines of up to $1000 for each individual addition of salt by restaurant staff before, during or after cooking. Only the customer, for now, would have the option of adding salt when food is served.
Then in the liberal Mecca of San Francisco, the city’s board of supervisors voted to ban restaurants from offering toys with fatty food (The “Happy Meal Ban”). Supervisor Eric Mar told the LA Times, “We’re part of a movement that is moving forward an agenda of food justice.” Now read that carefully and you will see the dangers of the left. They are moving their “agenda forward” in the name of “justice.” It is this type of thinking that makes them believe the government should have ultimate authority over what we eat, the types of lights we have in our house, the type of car we drive, the type of TV we should watch, how much money we should make and the quality of healthcare we can have. Wake up people, the danger to America isn’t coming from the right! Every attack on your liberty comes from someone with a D after their name.
Government at any level cannot be allowed to have this much power over the lives of the people. It is precisely the opposite of what our founding fathers had in mind and the Constitution was designed to prevent it. If the progressive left is allowed to “move their agenda forward” in the name of “justice” because “we can’t leave it up to the parents” then where will their agenda stop? We must stay vigilant; it is obvious the Democrats and Obama did not learn anything from the November election. They continue to fight for amnesty, and insist you owe them up to 55% of what you have worked for your entire life after you have died. Democrats have only one agenda, control. If California voters don’t soon figure that out, our state will be the first to fall.
