While President Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle Obama, comes across as the near-perfect First Lady of the United States in many, many ways, she has her limits when it comes to certain things involving the White House and her husband’s political ambitions.
For example, the First Lady recently spoke out regarding her time spent campaigning for her husband’s re-election in 2012. While she definitely wants another four years in the White House for President Barack Obama, she will not campaign at the expense of her family and herself.
She is especially protective of the time she requires herself to give her two daughters, Sasha and Malia. She has made it quite clear that her daughters always come first while respecting her own personal time away from the duties of being First Lady as well. She makes a stark contrast between her personal life and her life as the First Lady.
When speaking with the Wall Street Journal about campaigning for her husband and other politicians, Mrs. Obama said:
My approach to campaigning is: this is the time that I have to give to the campaign, and whatever you do with that time is up to you. But when it’s over, don’t even look at me. Don’t look this direction. No calls, no anything.
Michelle Obama made the comments during her recent tour to the west coast when she was promoting her program to reduce childhood obesity in the United States. The 'My Place' and 'Let's Move' initiatives are very important projects of which Mrs. Obama is tremendously involved.
