Michelle Obama has stolen the media spotlight from her husband, Barack, not with attention grabbing headlines but with her sculpted arms that the White House hasn’t seen since Jackie Kennedy Onassis was walking the halls. Mrs. Obama appears to enjoy showing off those well defined muscles with sleeveless dresses. And she should. Women’s Health magazine was able to meet with the first lady to discuss how she stays in shape and the editors share the first lady’s training tips with TODAY’s viewers.
1. Even with a hectic schedule Mrs. Obama wakes up at 5:30am at least four times per week to exercise.
2. The first lady believes in taking responsibility for one’s own actions - meaning she’s solely responsible for fitting in fitness and just saying no to unhealthy foods.
3. The first lady doesn’t believe in dieting but lives by what she calls the 90/10 rule. As long as she eats healthy 90% of the time she absolutely can snack on her favorite foods the other 10%. She’s admitted that her 10% favorites often include French fries.
4. Michelle Obama’s arm routine includes 1 minute of hammer curls, 15-20 repetitions of tricep pushdowns, and immediately following with 15-20 repetitions of underhand grip pushdowns.
5. Once Michelle transitioned from beginner to advanced she included mountain climbers into her routine to add interval type cardiovascular exercise to tone quadriceps and hamstrings.
