Have you seen the Michelle Obama eye roll video circulating the 'Net this lovely Inauguration Day 2013? If not, we've got it for you right here (linked below), and it really is worth seeing once or thirty times. First, a little background.
The First Lady's demure but deliberate gesture took place at the Inaugural luncheon Monday afternoon, and was thankfully caught on tape so that we, the people, can watch the First Lady roll her eyes at Speaker of the House John Boehner over and over and over. And over.
Incidentally, this video existing is the only thing that could top Beyonce's inaugural performance Monday afternoon, and boy has it. This might even be better than the FLOTUS getting bangs. Might.
(And although First Daughter Sasha Obama's mid-Inaugural speech yawn was indeed, as some are calling it, "priceless", Michelle's ocular screw-you to Boehner is still better. Infinitely so.)
We have to wonder exactly what was said that prompted the Michelle Obama eye roll seen in the video here, and the truth is we may never know. That's the truth. Our hope? Our hope is that Mrs. Obama immediately wrote the exchange down so she can dish in her post-White House memoir later. She totally seems clever enough to think to do that, so we'll be waiting.

Regardless, it isn't all that surprising that though Michelle was unable to fully suppress her annoyance and distaste for the Speaker, President Obama was able to chuckle with Boehner, easily passing conversation back and forth around the back of his wife's head with one of his staunchest adversaries. That's politics, after all; but Michelle is not a politician. (She is however, a fabulous dresser; stay tuned for our Inauguration Day 2013 fashion recap: find it here now!)
Underneath the parades and the luncheons and the balls and the cheering crowds, it remains that a very partisan undercurrent runs through D.C., even on Inauguration Day. Patriotism means fundamentally different things to different people in the Capital and around the country. As President Obama begins his second term in office, we will no doubt see that evidenced many times over in the future. There will also no doubt be many more opportunities for the now-infamous Michelle Obama eye roll to be directed at Speaker John Boehner and maybe even at her own hubby now and then; if not in reality, then through the glorious use of memes.
