Michelle Obama made a stunning surprise appearance at the 2013 Oscars in a stunning beaded, metallic Naeem Khan gown, chic bangs and Sutra Silver at Fragments chandelier earrings, according to a Feb. 24 E! News report.
According to a spokesperson for the First Lady, the appearance happened after she was contacted by the Academy, reports Access Hollywood. “The Academy Awards approached the First Lady about being a part of the ceremony,” the spokesperson told Access Hollywood. “As a movie lover, she was honored to present the award and celebrate the artists who inspire us all -- especially our young people -- with their passion, skill and imagination.”
The First Lady had been attending the National Governors Association Dinner at the White House and left the event to celebrate the lessons learned from this year’s best picture nominees before the award for Best Picture, in this case, “Argo.”
She was introduced by Jack Nicholson for her “satellite” appearance.
In her presentation, she detailed what the movies taught the world about love, life and achieving one’s dreams, according to E! News. “Thank you Jack, and welcome to the White House everyone. I'm so honored to introduce the nominees for Best Picture,” the First Lady said. “And to help celebrate the movies that lift our spirits, broaden our minds and transport us to places we have never imagined.”
She explained that lessons from the movies apply to everyone regardless of who they are, but added that these lessons are “especially important for our young people.” She concluded by thanking Hollywood for playing a big part in teaching children to “learn to open their imagination, to dream just a little bigger and strive everyday to achieve those dreams.”
Pulling double duty, the Frist Lady wore the same Naeem Khan dress for the Governor’s Ball and her appearance at the Oscars, E! News reports.
