Michelle Obama is celebrating her 50th birthday today, according to a Jan. 17 report from the Voice of America. She has a lot to celebrate since she's considered a fashion icon across the United States.
Mrs. Obama is well-known for her sense of style along with her policy initiatives on childhood obesity and nutrition.
Her fashion has made its mark much like Jacqueline Kennedy's did in the 1960s. Mrs. Obama's 2013 inaugural gown -- the one she wore for her husband's second term -- will be displayed at the Smithsonian Institute.
This is the first time that the museum has put a second-term inaugural gown on display. The museum is also celebrate its 100th anniversary of the Smithsonian's well-known exhibit of first ladies' inaugural gowns.
The red chiffon gown designed by Jason Wu was paired with red pumps made from Jimmy Choo. Mrs. Obama has been known to wear affordable and unknown designers.
Michelle Obama's first inaugural ball gown will return to the Smithsonian in January 2015. That's when the red inaugural dress will leave the display. The first lady has three more years to continue making more fashion milestones.
