Michelle Obama buys eclectic mix of fresh food at White House Farmers' Market (slideshow)

Nashvillians aren't the only ones who love and support their local farmers' market. First Lady Michelle Obama braved a drizzly day today to attend the opening of the new farmers' market, located right near the White House on Vermont Avenue.

Mrs. Obama attended opening day at the farmers' market not only as part of her continuing mission to persuade the American public to eat more fresh and healthy foods, but also for a more personal reason: to do some shopping.

“I’ve never seen so many people so excited about fruits and vegetables," she said to the large crowd who gathered at the market despite the fickle weather. “Yay for vegetables!”

While shopping excitedly at the FRESHFARM farmers' market, just one block from home, Michelle Obama filled her straw shopping basket with fresh black kale, eggs, cherry tomatoes, a mix of hot peppers, fingerling potatoes, and cheese.

One item, though, stands in contrast to the other purchases: chocolate milk. The First Lady, it appears, knows that a sweet reward can be a part of a healthful diet.

Good for her. It's certainly an important cause. If she can convince some kids to put down the cheezy poofs and pick up a carrot, I say more power to her!

What's the over/under on how long it'll be before Glenn Beck claims she's trying to use her Socialist influence to put hard working American potato chip factory workers out of business?
