Michelle Kwan marries Clay Pell in Rhode Island on Sat., Jan. 19, 2013, and she wears a Vera Wang wedding gown for the event, according to a People report. Although photos of the wedding are not yet available, the newlyweds surely made a striking couple on their special day.
The Olympic figure skater walked down the aisle on the arm of her father Danny Kwan. Pell's grandfather was Senator Claiborne Pell, the six-term United States senator from Rhode Island who sponsored the Pell Grant that bears his name. Senator Pell passed away in 2009 at the age of 90.
Pell and Michelle Kwan married at the First Unitarian Church of Providence, R.I., reciting their own vows and kissing prematurely before they were pronounced husband and wife.
Thirty-one-year-old Clay Pell is the director for strategic planning on the National Security staff at the White House. He is also a JAG and Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard. While Michelle Kwan married in an ivory Vera Wang wedding gown, Pell wore his military dress uniform.
It's hard to believe that it has been more than 10 years since Kwan took home the bronze medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games. The former Olympian is now a senior advisor for public diplomacy and public affairs and a married woman. Congratulations to the happy couple.
