Chef Carlos Gaytán will be in Salt Lake City this week to raise money and share his delicious talents at various events.
Gaytán is the owner of the only Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant in the United States that is owned by a Mexican chef. Mexique on Chicago Avenue in Chicago melds Gaytán’s knowledge of French cooking techniques and ingredients to his roots of traditional Mexican cuisine. Mexique was awarded best restaurant of 2010 and received its first star in the Michelin Guide in 2013. Chef Gaytán was also awarded “Chef of the Year 2011,” by the American Culinary Federation.
And this week, you can experience his food right here in Utah by attending one of these events:
Harmon’s Cooking School
Chef Gaytán will impart his wisdom at a cooking class at Harmon’s City Creek on Friday, August 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The class is “The Essentials of Modern Mexican Cuisine” and only a limited number of spaces are available for the class. The event is a fundraiser for Artes de México en Utah and is $75 per person. To prepay and reserve your seats, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Frida Bistro Dinners
Chef Gaytán will also be preparing a six-course tasting menu at Frida Bistro on both Thursday, August 14 and Friday, August 15 at 7 p.m. The menu will include cobia ceviche, seafood mousse tamales, chipotle/tamarind duck breast, braised pork belly and a pistachio sponge cake.
