Republican lawmaker Jim Sensenbrenner apologized for making a rude remark about Michele Obama’s figure, including saying that she “had a big butt,” for someone who is advocating the nation eat right and exercise. According to the LA Times, Sensenbrenner released his statement to the media today.
It sounds like Sensenbrenner was on a roll with his snide remarks while at a church bazaar in Hartford, Wisconsin over the weekend. He talked about the difficulty first ladies in the past have presented with when trying to get their projects off the ground and cited Laura Bush and her literacy project.
Sensenbrenner made these remarks after the media left the church bazaar and he was sitting at the table with 72 year-old Ann Marsh-Meigs, who immediately came to Michele Obama’s defense calling her “elegant and beautiful.” While his remarks were made out of ear shot of the media, he apparently thought it was safe to be so flippant in front of Marsh-Meigs. He thought wrong, Marsh-Meigs didn't let him get away with this.
