Michele Bachmann has won another term in the United States Congress. She will be once again representing the state of Minnesota in one of the most conservative districts in America, the sixth district. Before she won election, however, she made a failed bid to win the Republican nomination for President of the United States. The costs from that endeavor are still outstanding, and Congresswoman Bachmann allegedly is refusing to pay.
Five staffers say that they are owed a meager $5,000 for the work they did on Bachmann's 2012 presidential campaign and that Bachmann refuses to pay. What's worse is Bachmann has over $2 million in cash sitting in her war chest.
Why is Bachmann refusing to pay? According to a Jan. 10 news release by a former top Bachmann official named Peter Waldon, he and others were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements that would gag them from speaking about anything they witnessed, illegal or otherwise, while working for the campaign. Walrdon discusses why he came forward with his story:
This story is important. I’ve got five soldiers, as it were, five men who are willing to stand and not capitulate to this unnatural pressure that is coming from the Bachmann campaign. It’s just immoral what they’re trying to do. They’re trying to shut us up.
So what is the cover-up all about? Salon.com reports Waldron claims that there was a misused email list, that may have been possibly stolen from a home-schooling group. This list also may have possibly been used to fund-raise for the campaign. The home-schooling group has filed a lawsuit against the Bachmann campaign. Those investigations are still pending.
My my, the tangled webs we weave...
