Michele Bachmann, A Stylish Presidential Candidate

A woman can use the language of clothing and fashion to construct an image and to demonstrate power.  This is especially true for Michele Bachmann, the hopeful female GOP candidate that is making the journey to become the next President of the United States.

As the election comes closer, we will be seeing more of Bachmann in political debates, newspapers, talk shows, and other media outlets. People will not only be discussing Bachmann’s capability and tenacity as the future President of the United States, and her stand on topics from job creation to affordable energy. But everyone, from bloggers to political talk show hosts will be discussing Bachmann’s ability to dress the part of the powerful woman in politics who wants to be President.

Bachmann faces the challenge of being a woman and candidate for the presidency of the United States. It is not only a challenge, because she is racing against all male candidates, but because she has to face the challenge of mixing fashion and politics. Women in politics, especially those running for a leadership position, must ask herself is it possible to dress very feminine and still be taken seriously.

This can be a very challenging task, because when a woman enters a Presidential election, one tends to single out the candidate’s wardrobe.  In the last election, we saw Hillary Clinton battle the race and many criticized Clinton’s styling decisions, especially when it came to her suits. Many said that her suits were simply unflattering and unfeminine.

So far, Michele Bachmann’s style is sophisticated but modern.  She exemplifies a sort of modern day Jackie Kennedy, the early years. Bachmann tends to go with simple silhouettes, such as Chanel style cardigan  jackets. Bachmann also mixes her wardrobe up, by wearing dresses that reveal a little skin, whether at the shoulders or at the knee. Overall, Bachmann is not afraid to show that she is a woman capable of becoming the next President.

It still maybe a little early to tell where Bachmann will end up in the November election. Aside from being a strong and rather qualified Presidential female candidate, Bachmann has the advantage of using the language of clothing to demonstrate that she can be the next President of the United States, while still maintaining a feminine style and grace.
