America is facing its worst economic crisis since the Great Depression . . . the housing meltdown, 15 million Americans out of work, Congressionally approved budget deficits, $14 trillion public debt and hypocritical political paralysis in Washington, D.C. . . . who can we trust to lead the nation out of this morass to a brighter future?
Michele Bachmann?
After eight years floundering behind George W. Bush’s enigmatic leadership that snookered us into following our so-called leaders into completely nonsensical wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, eight years of deficit budgets, the 2008 financial meltdown and a $14 trillion public debt, who can we now trust to honestly confront the true reasons behind America’s current precarious position?
Michele Bachmann?
And, after two years of Republicans wasting their time and our money trying to rewrite history to somehow convince us that President Barack Obama is responsible for creating George W. Bush’s mess, who can we trust to convince Republicans to stop playing political games and start working to rebuild the nation?
Michele Bachmann?
Who is Michele Bachmann and what qualifies her to be President of the United States?
She’s a 55-year old former IRS tax attorney who served in the Minnesota State Senate. She was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2006 and is a founder of the House ‘Tea Party Caucus’.
Her accomplishments in three terms in Congress include:
- Voting for George W. Bush deficit budgets
- Voting against the College Cost Reduction and Access Act to raise Pell grants and lower interest rates on student loans
- Introducing the “Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act” to allow Americans to choose their own light bulbs
- Co-sponsoring a bill to allow merchants to print credit card numbers and expiration dates on sales receipts
- Co-sponsoring a bill to limit the amount of information census takers can ask
Bachmann’s leadership efforts include:
- Traveling to Alaska to advocate for more drilling – the trip was paid for by Arctic Power, Alaskan lobbyists
- Making speeches claiming that global warming is a hoax
- Advocating against ‘Cap and Trade’ legislation, claiming that carbon dioxide is not harmful
- Opposing the bailout plan that ultimately saved Chrysler and General Motors and kept hundreds of thousands of Americans on their jobs
- Announcing in 2008 that then-Senator Barack Obama and other members of Congress were ‘anti-American’
- Suspecting China of secretly conspiring to replace the Dollar with the Yuan
- Recommending that Americans not cooperate with census takers for Constitutional reasons
- Telling Minnesotans to be “armed and dangerous” on the issue of President Obama’s cap and trade policy
- Criticizing any expansion of AmeriCorps, a government-sponsored community service organization despite the fact that her son was an AmeriCorps volunteer teacher
- Announcing from the floor of the House of Representatives that President Obama’s health care reform bill would create ‘death panels’ that would order elderly men and women to be left to die
- Advocating against President Obama taking a trip to Asia in 2010, saying that the trip would cost taxpayers $200 million dollars a day or $1.4 billion per week
Are these the legislative accomplishments and leadership qualities you want to see in your next president?
Why do we elect people to positions of power we would never hire to manage our grocery stores, operate our gas stations, teach our children or pick-up our trash?
After all, we're the people who elected and then re-elected to the presidency an alcoholic, former drug-addict who bankrupted two companies given to him by his father!
In that spirit, how on earth did someone like Michele Bachmann, a woman who takes farm subsidies and Medicare payments yet rails against government subsidies, a woman who believes that homosexuals should continue to be relegated to second-class citizen status, a woman whose legislative accomplishments don’t even justify her taxpayer-paid $174,000 annual salary plus benefits and expenses, a woman who is famous for making incredibly stupid mis-statements become a Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States?
Beyond that, why would anyone believe that Michele Bachmann is the best candidate to be president in 2012?
What vision has Bachmann proffered to rebuild the economy, to create jobs for 15 million Americans, to teach America’s children to compete effectively in the 21st century world economy, to provide accessible, affordable health care for all Americans, to extricate America from futile foreign wars, to create a humane, economically viable immigration policy, to protect America from terrorism without compromising Constitutional protections, to protect our environment for this and future generations, to rebuild the nation's crumbling infrastructure, to pay down the public debt and to make America permanently energy independent?
Huh?
