Friday night is a great night to go out for dinner. Getting together with friends for a relaxed night of food and drink after a rough week is always the perfect start to the weekend. A great Friday night option on the Southside of Jacksonville is Michelangelo's Italian Restaurant, just off of I-295 in the old Fresh Market shopping center on San Jose Boulevard. They have been creating some buzz in Mandarin, and were recently written up in the Times Union.
Right away, the Michelangelo's diner will notice two things: friendly service waiting at the door and decor straight out of Grandma's house - if Grandma lives in Boca and has a penchant for wicker. The food at Michelangelo's is right on point though. They offer all the usual suspects: Chicken or Veal Parm ($14, $16), terrific Chicken Piccata ($15), Lasagna ($13), a delicious Fettucini Alfredo ($11), and Linguini with Clams ($13). The dinners are all really quite good, and are served with an iceberg salad and fresh garlic rolls - the garlic rolls being a highlight of dining at Michelangelo's. They are served warm, crusty on the outside and soft in the middle, about the size of a baseball, coated in garlic butter, and then topped with a sprinkle of cheese - one basket will not be enough! Michelangelo's also has a nice wine selection, though not everything is available by the glass, so your server is a good resource.
Overall, Michelangelo's offers up good Italian food, good service, and a relaxing atmosphere. They also have certificates on both Restaurant.com and Active Diner.com, so you can save a little money while enjoying a local ethnic restaurant for dinner. Michelangelo's Italian Restaurant is located at:
