Tareq and Michaele Salahi Today Show interview with Matt Lauer Credit: MSNBC
Saying they were invited guests to President Barack Obama's first White House State Dinner, and that their lives have been "destroyed," Michaele Salahi spoke to the Today Show's Matt Lauer this morning, responding to the recent media storm of speculation and outrage.
Feeling that everything that they have worked for in their lives has been turned upside down, Tareq and Michaele Salahi explained that they are working closely with the US Secret Service to clear their names and explain their behavior.
Through some sort of "Facebook connection" via their lawyer Paul W. Gardner, a Pentagon "White House liaison" exchanged some (apparently) confusing e-mails with the Salahi's--they were under the impression that they would be attending, while the other side says that they never stated that the couple would have tickets to attend the event. The Washington Post has their take on things.
Tareq Salahi would like folks to know that when the "timeline" and contents of the e-mail exchanges are made public that America will be "extremely surprised."
