Michael Wolf named Secretary of Health Department

Governor Tom Corbett officially named Michael Wolf as Secretary of the Department of Health. Wolf has been the Acting Secretary of Health since October 2012. As Secretary, he oversees the regulation of Pennsylvania's hospitals, nursing homes and various other health care facilities. His job also includes public health initiatives and services, as well as outreach, education, prevention and preparedness activities.

One of the programs of the PA Department of Health is the Pennsylvania Diabetes Prevention & Control Program. The program aims to educate diabetics and health workers throughout the state. Improving the quality of life among diabetics is also a goal of the program.

"I am grateful to Governor Corbett for giving me this great opportunity to serve our commonwealth and honored to work alongside the employees of the Department of Health to ensure every resident has access to affordable, high-quality health care, regardless of where they reside in the commonwealth," Wolf said.

Wolf, 46, a native of Pennsylvania, graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree in Political Science. He received his master’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Global Management from the University of Phoenix. In May 2011, Wolf joined the health department as executive deputy secretary. Prior to that, he was the Director of Worldwide Public Affairs and Policy for Pfizer for five years. Wolf worked at Life Sciences Greenhouse of Central PA as their government relations and business development consultant from 2003 to 2006. He served as Deputy Secretary for the Office of International Business Development for three years before that.

"I have confidence in his knowledge of the public health system, as well as his leadership ability and dedication to the commonwealth," said Governor Corbett of Wolf.
