Michael Vick to be honored in upcoming gala event

Norfolk, VA - Michael Vick is to be honored at a Black-Tie gala event hosted by the Southeastern Virginia Arts Association.

According to the Virginian-Pilot article posted just today, Vick and attorney Carl C. La Mondue are the two guests scheduled to receive honors at the March 26 event.

This cultural arts organization has every right to honor an individual of their choice. However, the reasons that they note are somewhat bewildering.

A news release states that Vick,

“epitomized the meaning of ‘hero’ not only by his unparalleled accomplishments on the football field, but more importantly, by his relentless resilience in overcoming the obstacles he has faced in his career, defying the odds and naysayers, and becoming a true example of life success for all to emulate,”

First of all - hero? By definition, a hero is somebody who commits an act of remarkable bravery or who has shown an admirable quality such as great courage or strength of character.

Vick= Hero? Nope. Strength of character? Definitely not.

And then there is the statement about Vick overcoming obstacles... Vick had to overcome obstacles that were created by his own heinous actions.

And finally, Vick is to be honored for becoming a true example of life success for all to emulate? Truly, Michael Vick is the very best candidate that the organization could find for "all" to emulate?

Are there not other upstanding, accomplished individuals that have made something of themselves without previously committing atrocious crimes? Are there no other standout sports figures worthy of honoring?

An individual that made something of their life without having to climb out of a hell hole created by their own hands?

Honor an individual that has done good - not because they had to, but rather, because they wanted to.

Sometimes you just shake your head. Organizations looking to honor a hero need to stop being blinded by fame and fortune. Simply put, they could find someone much more deserving of an honorary title.

Way to go Penny. I hope this article makes it back to the gala and Vick! Those who nominated him should be required to step down from their position. Do they have any idea what kind of message they are sending out by doing this?

  • Lisa Giesick 1 year ago

Really? I agree, are there a lack of humans in that community?

  • Dax Gorham 1 year ago

Good reply..obviously they lack good judgement when they honored Vick!!!!!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

It is a complete joke that Michael Vick is being labeled a "hero"!! He does not deserve to be honored for anything other than being an animal abuser!! SHAME ON YOU Southeastern Virginia Arts Assoc. and any other organization that would honor this man!! BOO HISS BOO!!

  • Eileen 1 year ago

Hero! Just what kind of people would call him a hero. I would say, very misguided. This is just so so so so SICK.

Send them an email to complain about their choice.

Absolutely, Michael SHOULD BE HONORED! Oh! I'm sorry, I meant, he should be Honed, as Abuser of the Year . . . Poorest Xample for the decade . . . if he is Sincerely remorseful, why doesn't he contribute a nice hefty chunk of change to Dogs Deserve Better's effort to purchase his property in an effort create a safe-haven and sanctuary for victimized dogs. Surely, that would shut me up for a bit. How about it, Mike?

I guess all the rapists and child molesters were busy that night. 0.o

AMEN to every comment above! That is just pathetic. Vick never was a hero and never will be a hero. He didn't have obstacles to overcome. The dogs that he abused and tortured had OBSTACLES to overcome! The Southeastern Virginia Arts Association must consist of small mined people. Just think of those who really deserve the honor and then they find out that a guy like Michael Vick is getting it. Money is the only thing that matters anymore. A person doesn't need to know to act to be an actor....how to sing to be a singer. A person becomes famous for the stupidiest accomplishments - or lack of - anymore. Shame on the Southeastern Virginia Arts Association. I hope they get a lot of grieve for that stupid decision.

The could we only way this life form could EVER be a hero, is that he donated every cent over an annual salary of $30,000, to animal rescue/vet expenses. I don't mean the SPCA, I mean the actual field soldiers, those who spend every cent they do and don't have on to pull, feed and vet the abused and dumped souls out there.

Give me a break. Something is seriously wrong with anyone that would portray him as a hero. He probably paid them to do it.....

  • Sandy 1 year ago

I'm sure his agent set this up. What a disgrace!

  • Karen NZ 1 year ago

Absolutely agree. Money talks and this POS has bought these morally bankrupt ratbags. It's on their karma.

  • Ron 1 year ago

I would have thought they could have come up with someone a bit more worthwhile than Vick. Like maybe someone from skid row or a train hoppin' wino.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

This is a disgrace. A sickening, disgusting, disgrace. Unbelievable that they could think of no one better. Your average Joe walking down the street is more deserving. Someone on that Arts Council needs to have their head examined!

  • ramonsmom 1 year ago

Vick belongs back in jail for murdering those poor dogs.He is not a hero. He's scum

  • maruned 1 year ago

As an artist, I am extremely ashamed that any 'art organization' would condone and support such a vile heathen like michael vick. I can not believe there would be an artist living who would dehumanize a creature of God in any way. They, therefore can not be true artists. I am sure there was quite a contribution made to receive this so called honor. POO-POO on these people and any such supporter and I really hope God shows no mercy on them.

  • Karen NZ 1 year ago

Scum, filth and going straight to hell without passing go when he finally has the decency to die (like all dog fighters), leaving the world a far cleaner place.

  • sitfan 1 year ago

I think they could come up with so many more people out there that you'd want to honor not this abuser.

  • maxiemom 1 year ago

I agree with every one of the above comments. Vick is a piece of trash. The people that nominated him are, too.

  • Barbara O 1 year ago

I went to the SEVAA website to find a way to contact the organization and express my outrage. This is the e-mail I received as a reply:
"Southeastern Virginia Arts Association filed an order of dissolution August 2010, under the directions of the BOD and Chair residing, after many heartfelt meetings. SEVAA CLOSED. Attorney, Carl Lamondue and Michael J. Muhammad, neither of these two individuals were ever a member of SEVAA, they hijacked and reinstatement the organization in October without the approval of Board o f Directors."

  • Kriss R 1 year ago

I don't understand the email. What does it mean?

  • maxiemom 1 year ago

Did you get a message of sorts from smithpaint01@aol.com, which gets filtered through boxbe, then you have go sign their guest list...... This looks to me like a private filter for a private individual or 'organization'. I have NEVER gotten in touch with any public entity where I had to jump though so many hoops to even get a message through to someone, and I have dealt with arts councils before! There is definitely something shady about this: this is not on the up and up. It looks to me like one more phony attempt to polish this bastard's image, when he deserves to be spit on.

  • Jesus GuidesMe 1 year ago

Vick makes me sick. All the attention he is getting is not justified whatsoever.

  • maxiemom 1 year ago

That figures. A couple of wackjobs who are probably friends of home town boy Vick hijacked this thing to honor this slimeball. Sickening. They might even be some of the people who enjoyed the 'shows' this scum put on- what other kind of freak would give Michael Vick an honor of this type?

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

wonder if he's going to give some money to the arts assoc to try & get back in the state's good graces? perhaps they are the only ones who will take it. maybe there will a tape of dogs hollering when he goes up on stage. sorry bastard. hopefully someone will ruin his car while he's inside the bldg. guess that won't happen with all his flunky a**wipe thug entourage. what an idiot, for lack of a BETTER word...

  • Susy Raybon 1 year ago

Cultural arts???? On a good day he probably couldn't even spell it.

  • maxiemom 1 year ago

Hey wait a minute.. most of us here in Virginia are not animal abusers and we don't like this dog murdering piece of garbage either. He isn't well liked here either, for the most part.

  • hatechild&animalabusers 1 year ago

They should turn this gala into a roast. You know like throw his dumb F*$#ING A** in a trash can and light it on fire when he performs badly. I know alot of people would pay top dollar to watch that.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I just sent them an e-mail. Told them they should read LOST DOGS and SHAME ON THEM!

  • TGtrek in Florida 1 year ago

mikey vick a hero ???? Who is the uneducated fool that thought that one up , please dip$hit art director ,get a clue and a dictionary and look up what hero means , mikey v. can throw a football ,he is a dog killing football player , thats it ,nothing more , PERIOD. If mikey vick is the best you can do , you are a pathetic bunch of losers. Hey wait a minute , why don't you try calling the nevada state board of corrections and see if o.j. is available , then you can honor him as Husband of the Year.

  • Faith 1 year ago

Gotta love the comment about O.J getting the 'husband of the year' award. That is good! Oh, and ssshhh, otherwise you might give these people ideas for next years award ceremony. I swear these people must be on drugs!

  • Liz Brown 1 year ago

So bizarre and sad. You know there have to be SO MANY people in the community that have actually sacrificed time, energy and talent to improve arts and education in the community and they choose to honor this psychopath out of what? Hate? Ignorance? Or just plain old spite?

  • Elizabeth 1 year ago

An example to emulate? Great.... the upcoming generation will be low life criminals, cruel and inhumane without a conscience.. Won't their mothers be proud?

Formal Black Tie event....outstanding??? This distresses me greatly as it does many others..Actually I'm sure there is big money behind his being picked. To make people forget ,about what an A#@#$%% he really is.,,Maybe some poeple and Pitties should be in the parking lot,to greet the monster in grad style...

  • brandy 1 year ago

I love that idea about some pitties being there to say hello. The only reason anyone is supporting him is money. We have given him enough time and energy. he will get what he deserves in the end. I feel sorry for the people dumb enough to support him. He is a coward and murderer. Nowhere near hero. Maybe the people who have taken on his dogs and sacrificed so much for the good of animals should be named the hero's here. Maybe people who sacrifice on their own will should be honored. Not someone caught doing something horrible illegally then being forced to do positive things. The world really has a messed up perception of hero.

  • Judy Boone ,Texas 1 year ago

Karen says what all people with any feelings agree with--- Vick and his suck up supporters make me craz---y I want to know w t f is wrong with these perverts that think he deserves anything but be being drawn and quatered !!!All of these basta--s being removed would make the world a better place

  • Judy Boone ,Texas 1 year ago

Next these morons who kiss Vicks ass will nominate Hitler for sainthood

  • Windmill 1 year ago

I definitely hope this event gets boycotted, and by a lot of people locally to show the many voices in the community that are out-raged by this POS, no matter how this disgusting individual is portrayed in the media. There has to be vocal and visual disgust shown to this person. He's not worthy of these honours. Once you have a label of criminal seems you never can get rid of it. You are one for life, that tag stays with you for the reason that you yourself put on you, and Vick has no one else to blame but himself, due to greed.

  • Faith 1 year ago

Wow, just when I thought I had heard it all.

Obviously, all that is needed to be honored is loads of money; to be able to pay for high powered attorneys, and celebrity status; sport stars, models, actors/actresses, politicians, or even dog fighters. It doesn't really matter how you get there, but you are definitely treated differently once you do.

  • Dianne 1 year ago

Hero.. more like ZERO.. He should be working and paying for the dogs he tried to kill. Where are the donations he should be making to HIGH KILL shelters.. What about some of that MONEY going to a PITTBULL Rescue to help them. Zero like I said..
