Arguably the most talented quarterback on the free agent market right now is Michael Vick, and while there has been little interest shown so far, that might change. According to ESPN on March 19, a Michael Vick New York Jets meeting has been scheduled for this Friday.
The Jets have needed a quarterback since Mark Sanchez lost the faith of his coaches and the New York fans in recent years. Despite leading the team to two straight AFC Championship games, most consider those teams strengths to be the defense.
Last season, Geno Smith and Matt Simms both played quarterback for the Jets while Mark Sanchez sat and watched. The team has also signed Tim Tebow and David Garrard over the past few seasons, but neither were given a chance.
This year, it looked like Smith might get a chance to show improvement after a rookie campaign that saw him throw for 3,046 yards with 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. He also ran for 366 yards and six touchdowns. The turnovers is one big reason the Jets might be looking for his replacement.
Michael Vick signed with the Philadelphia Eagles once he was released from prison for his part in an illegal dog fighting ring. Over the three seasons that he was a starter with the Eagles, he threw for 8,683 yards while running for 1,597 yards. He threw 51 touchdowns compared to 30 interceptions and also ran for 11 touchdowns. He also missed 22 games over the last four seasons, either by injury or benching.
